A simple number line counting on activity counting up to 50, where pupils need to find two numbers that add up from the first number given to the target number, and write down the calculation. Suitable for Y2 and LA Y3 pupils or SEN. Practise using a number line. Practise counting on. Practise using single and double digit numbers up to 50. Ideal as an easy starter, fast finisher or homework activity. No answers are given as there is no “right” answer as long as the pupils reach the target number correctly.

A simple starter activity linked to revision of the past tense of irregular verbs (I went, I bought) and vocabulary related to shopping. Suitable for Upper KS2, KS2 or SEN pupils. Pupils are not given the “rules” for the game, but must listen and try and work out what the rule is - that the things they buy from the supermarket have to be given in alphabetical order. An excellent Speaking and Listening short task.

Laminate the sheets and cut the cards out. Ask children to read the riddles and match them to the animals images. Quick and easy activity for KS1, lower ability KS2, EAL or SEND children. Opens up lots of discussion or further work learning about the different animals, where they come from, where they live, children’s likes/dislikes, naming the animals, etc.

A whole class game to practice vocabulary and/or spelling. Aimed at KS2 but could also be used with lower ability KS3 or SEN pupils. Pupils are divided into 2 teams and have to take turns to write a word on the board following the alphabetical list from A to Z. The first team to complete the list wins the points. Words required can be random, related to a particular topic or a phonic pattern, for example.
